We, the two directors of Social Impact, just returned from a great week at the beautiful lake Constance in the South of Germany and just wanted to share with you that it has been a very interesting experience that has given us an insight into the field of “Business Ethics”. That was the name of the course we attended at the International Spring School at Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen. Prof. Bennett of Butler University/US made us familiar with the ENRON scandal, gave a crash course in classical ethics theories, made us play the prisoner’s dilemma and gave us many useful tips how to become successful as a ruthless businessman :-) We added the textbook which we used to the resources, feel free to ask us for more information.

There are two dates coming up that you should mark in your calendar:

Social Impact is organizing its first kick-off workshop on campus under the motto “Fair Trade” from April 24-26, 2009. We are looking forward to include a broad range of views of practitioners and experts on this topic. More information about the program and registration will be posted soon.

Social Impact will also help realize this year’s “Poverty Awareness Week” on campus from May 4-9, 2009 in collaboration with other Jacobs University student clubs.

We will keep you updated via the mailinglist (let us know if you want us to put you in), our facebook group (“Social Impact Initiative”) and of course on this blog.

Last Sunday, February 22, the student club B-link organized a discussion on the ideas of Muhammad Yunus, his Grameen Foundation and and the concept of Microcredit as part of their “From the inside” series of events.

We were grateful for this opportunuity to present our concept to the participants.

During a presentation by Trevor Sloughter, we watched inspiring videos about the impact of microcredits and and afterwards took part in an equally inspriring discussion.

A pdf version of the presentation can be downloaded here.

See also the links to the videos.

Jacobs University Bremen – On Sunday, February 15, 2009 we had our first meeting with interested students in “Social Impact”. After a presentation of the concept and a fruitful discussion, students got inspired and they showed a high motivation to participate in “Social Impact”.

So our first meeting was a success and we hope to inspire more people with our idea:) Thanks to all of you who came to the meeting:) We’re looking forward to work with you on the next steps…

Stay tuned;)
